Bilinba Resource Centre
'Bilinba' is a Yugambeh word meaning 'the place of the king parrot', named so because these native birds were once common in the area. You will see the image and blue, green and red colours of the king parrot outside and inside the library. The Centre boasts one of the largest school collections on the Gold Coast, and we are continually updating our selection to reflect student interests, trending titles or authors and quality literature.

Borrowing
Students may borrow two books at a time and must have a library bag to borrow.
Please no plastic bags.
Students are expected to deposit their returns in the return chute.
Students must use a shelf marker when choosing a book from the shelf.
2 books may be borrowed for a period of 14 days.
Students are encouraged to partake in either the school's Decodable Home Reading program or for students who have moved on from decodables, the popular Litpro (Lexile) Reading Program.
Parent volunteers help to facilitate the Decodable Home Reading Program, conducting borrowing between 8:50 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. each day. Parent volunteers are always welcome and can make contact with the front desk library staff at any time or by calling Ph. 55 196366.
Lexile Program (Litpro)
As soon as students have move beyond decodable texts (determined by the class teacher) they are invited to join the Litpro (Lexile) Reading Program. The program aims to foster a love of reading whilst developing comprehension skills and increasing opportunities for students to experience different authors and chapter books.
Students in this program read novels and answer questions on-line to gain points and awards. Certificates, ribbons and medals are awarded for milestones and significant effort in novel (chapter book) reading. Students are expected to quiz at least once every 14 days, but regular quizzing is encouraged.
Unfortunately, not every book has a quiz. If no quiz is available on a title, students may complete a book review (forms available at the library front desk). Points are awarded on book reviews (if there is no quiz) based on the points value assigned by Litpro for similar titles, or points may be added for extra effort made by the student.
Book Fairs
We now run one Book Fair each year, usually early Term 4. Money raised is used to buy much needed resources for the Bilinba Centre.
