Dear parents,

We are really looking forward to our students returning to school next Monday, May 25.
Please find below information about children returning to school next week.
This has been shared on Facebook and in the school newsletter.
We are following the Department of Education and Health Department directives to ensure we minimise the entry of adults into our school, and also to ensure that all adults maintain appropriate physical distancing requirements.

Your patience and support is greatly appreciated.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school on 55196333.

Transition back to school-based learning

Dear Parents and Carers,

We welcome the Premier's announcement this week regarding the return to school for students in Prep and Year 1 on Monday 11 May 2020. The news of a staggered start to school for our students in Prep and Year 1 is exciting and we are looking forward to welcoming our 'little learners' back to school. Part of returning to school would be ensuring that our students are prepared for learning and attend in their full school uniform, including the school jumper. These can be purchased online through FlexiSchools, and once payment has been processed, can be collected at the office.

To ensure that we transition into this phase of re-entry we have developed a plan that ensures we are adhering to the guidelines distributed by Queensland Health and Education Queensland. One of the guidelines clearly stipulates that adults must not gather in and around school grounds, car parks, school gates and outside classrooms.

In order to follow the guidelines and maintain the health and safety of our school community, we will be implementing a procedure for drop off and collection of Prep and Year 1 students before, during and after school. The procedure for this is attached for your reference.

For students in Years 2 to 6, the current home-based learning arrangements will remain in place at this time and as such, parents/carers remain responsible for their children. We will continue to work closely with our families to support the implementation of home learning.

Parents who are essential workers and who must send their children to school are required to forward an email to essentialworkers@coomerass.eq.edu.au with the following information:

  • Names of children who will be attending school:
  • Days of the week the children will be attending school:
  • Name of parent/s and their Essential work role/s:
  • Declaration that there is no adult at home on these days to supervise the children.

The health and safety of our staff, parents and students is of high priority and we thank you for your continued support in adhering to these guidelines and processes.

    Kind regards,

Eileen Furlonger

Acting Principal

Coomera State School Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

I trust that this finds you all healthy and well and that you have had a lovely break, given the very different circumstances we find ourselves in.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to develop, our school has been planning for a variety of scenarios to ensure we are perfectly placed to meet the learning needs of all students. Now that the government has confirmed requirements for schools, I can now report the following procedures for students at Coomera State School for the first five weeks of Term 2.

Term 2 Arrangements: Weeks 1 - 5

The Queensland Government has decided that, in order to reinforce the necessary social distancing across the community and slow the spread of COVID-19, students will move to a home-based learning model from 20 April 2020 until at least 22 May 2020 (Weeks 1 to 5 of Term 2).

During this period, all students who are able to be supervised at home and learn from home are to stay at home. This includes students whose parents are working from home themselves.

Students learning from home will engage in the Home Learning program that has been specifically designed by their class teachers. Details regarding the program were sent out at the end of last term. Necessary links to the learning will be released on the morning of the first day of Term 2.

A decision about the remainder of Term 2 will be made by mid-May.

Students of Essential Workers

As was the case for the student-free days prior to the break, there will be exceptions for some students who will need to attend school. Coomera State School will continue to provide appropriate educational learning, aligned to the Home Learning program, for those students who do not have an adult at home and whose parents, or carers, work in essential roles. These students are able to attend school.

Parents who are essential workers and who must send their children to school are required to forward an email to essentialworkers@coomerass.eq.edu.au by 5:00pm this Sunday, April 19 with the following information:

  • Names of children who will be attending school:
  • Days of the week the children will be attending school:
  • Name of parent/s and their Essential work role/s:
  • Declaration that there is no adult at home on these days to supervise the children.

It is vital that for the safety of staff and other students, only those parents who are essential workers and who must send their children to school do so. Parents attempting to send additional students to school place their own child, staff and other students at risk due to our inability to maintain social distancing and safety measures.

A Step by Step Approach

This current situation is new to all of us. During this time we are all going to have to work together to ensure that our students, your children, are supported in their learning. Whilst we may not get everything perfect from the beginning, Coomera State School will do our very best to put in place a process that is clear, and most importantly, supportive of our students.

As we commence Term 2, I will once again communicate with all families to update you all regarding the approach we have implemented. For now, I encourage all families to enjoy this precious family time.

I wish all families a happy, safe and healthy remainder to the holiday break and I look forward to communicating with you when Term 2 commences on Monday 20 April.

I appreciate your patience, understanding and support during this challenging time.

Kind Regards,

Loretta White

Principal
